Welcome to the Mentor 4 Moms Podcast!
On this episode:
It’s Martin Luther King’s birthday today (the release day of this episode). This day is bigger than just a day off from school or work. It’s more than a mention on the news this evening. It’s a day we celebrate the legacy of a man’s life that was so intentional and on purpose. He modeled that in every way. He had such an impact on this nation. His life has now gone on to have a global impact.
There are things we can learn from him. He lived in difficult, hard times. Yet, he wrote a speech that has gone on to be repeated again and again where he talked about having a dream, his “I Have a Dream” speech. Go find that speech and listen to it with your family. Let that speech cast a vision of hope. It connects to our message today. I want to talk about you and I dreaming again.
Let’s talk about 20/20 goals. We want goals with clarity that are full of purpose. I’m talking about goals that get you so fired up you need less coffee to get through the day. I’m not here just to give you information. I’m here every week to help you experience transformation.
Where do we START? We must be willing to dream again. Trust that where you start is a good place. Know that goals are completely made up. If we’re making it up, let’s make up something good. If we’re gonna make it up, why don’t we make up something that we really, really want. Then let’s add the commitment to it to see how we can make that a reality.
Start where you are – whether you’re catching this episode in January or June – start right there. Life doesn’t move in just one direction.
Prioritize. Not everything has equal importance. Example: Decluttering my house is not as important to me as sitting down and having time with my family. Not even close. I want to have neatness and order, and I want to have time with my kids. Those don’t get the same weight. Our aim here is to be more intentional and more on purpose.
Start is a location. Identify where you are before you begin the journey. Beginning is the movement – the action. You can start at any time. Once you identify where you are, then you can get into movement – get into action.
What are some of your dream killers or vision stealers that show up in our lives? Recognize that is a natural part of the journey.
- Fear
- Doubt
- Indecision
- Hesitation
- Comfort Zone
- Over-thinking
- Exhaustion
Here are ten ways to move past those dream killers and start dreaming again:
- Do something different and notice how you feel.
- First choice, best choice. Make a commitment that your first choice is your best choice.
- Take a new route. Do something different. You might make a new discovery.
- Commit to honesty when asked how you are. Check in. How are you really?
- Understand that rest is not the same thing as sleep. Sleep is a physiological need. Rest is calm, relaxation, where we allow our minds to go beyond the urgent and crises. Both are important.
- Keep a notebook or journal within reach at all times. Capture those ideas, thoughts, and questions that come up.
- Get curious about life again. Start asking questions.
- Get lost and explore. Get lost on a walk, on a drive, or in creating something.
- Reach out to someone that’s been on your mind.
- Get still. Allow that moment of stillness.
Over on the post for episode 62 on 20/20 Vision I uploaded a video of my vision board. You can hear me processing my dreams for this year as I look at those photos. I want you to do the same. THEN, write it down.
Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run. ~Habakkuk 2:2 NASB
And then God answered, “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming – it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time. ~Habakkuk 2:2 MSG
We must be dedicated enough to our dreams to write them down. Make them plain and uncomplicated. Set them before your eyes.
On the next episode, let’s talk about how to take these things we wrote down and transfer them to our calendar. I will share a system I am using to manage my calendar this year that I think could also help you.
